classic keyes

Filed under: — Not of this World @

working on some transcription, thought i’d pass along this classic keyes passage.  i especially like the line about fighting over which method to fornicate…

When are we going to get fed up with this spectacle?  I think we’re going to get fed up with it when we remember who we are supposed to be.  Now I realize that there are forces in this country who don’t want us to do that, absolutely don’t want us to remember who we are supposed to be.  They want us to think of ourselves as consumers, they want us to think of ourselves in terms of our sexual identities and fight over which method we use to fornicate and so forth and so on.  They want us to think of ourselves as if the whole goal and purpose of our life is materialism and hedonism and consumption and whoever gives us the best deal in terms of our next little set of pleasures, that’s what we’re for, and that’s what we’re about; and elections should be decided by a popularity contest, whoever is able through their demagoguery to promise that they will give us the most pleasure and give us the most material goods in exchange for our own hard earned dollars, we’ll elect them like the fools they expect us to be.  See?  They’re looking at us and they’re saying, oh these fools, what fools these mortals be, they keep electing us while we bribe them with their own money.

  1. Damn, it’s always golden! Maybe we should transcribe all this, then…heaven forbid…pull the trigger on it.
